History
Version 10.7.4 (February, 7th 2024)
- A new option in the Web Site settings allows to block/skip the tracking links on the google search result
- The in-page search now remembers the last search position, so you can continue the search even when aborted the search completely before (of course only when you are still on the same page and the search term does not change)
- Removes a filter from the default ads blocker which could prevent that links of the google image search function as expected
- Fixes an issue with creating QR codes for links under iOS 17
- Removed the "google cache" module because google discontinued this service
- Fixes an issue when launching the App through one of the options from the menu of the App icon on the homescreen while being logged out of all users accounts. The command from the App menu was ignored in this case, instead of executing the command after logging-in with a user account.
Version 10.7.3 (October, 14th 2023)
- In the web site settings there's now a new option to disable "universal links". The "Universal links" feature of the iOS allows App to redirect links to their website to themselves, so these links won't open in the browser anymore. But because many users do not like this "hijacking" of links, this can now be prevented with the new setting.
- Workaround added for an iOS bug when handling fragment identifiers within "data" URLs
- Bugfix: When opening many links in the background very fast it could happen that not all pages did load.
- Bugfix: Fixes a crash when opening a private Tab under certain circumstances
- Bugfix: Fixes a crash when processing a very large number of new files within the downloads when there are already a large number of files in there
Version 10.7.2 (March, 10th 2023)
- Unfortunately the new quickstarter can trigger a bug of the iOS, which has the result that the quickstarter does not always show its bookmarks. This iOS bug only affects tabs which were already used for a while to load web sites. So the issue only reveals itself after a while. If and when the bug shows up can also depend on the device hardware and iOS release. New tabs were never affected.
This update of iCab Mobile includes a workaround for this iOS issue so it can avoid the empty quickstarter.
Version 10.7 (February, 28th 2023)
- The Quickstarter is far more powerful since iOS 14 now (in older iOS releases everything remains the same). It is possible to group the bookmarks within the quickstarter, so they are visually separated. For each group it is possible to define rules which control when or where their bookmarks are shown or hidden. This way you can have job-related bookmarks which are only shown on weekdays when being in the office and private bookmarks which are shown at home, for example. So the quickstarter can automatically adapt itself by time, date and location.
At the top of the quickstarter you'll find a few icons which can be used to configure the dark mode (always on/off or using the dark mode setting of the system), to set the size of the Bookmark icons, to select wether the icons show a preview of the page or the site icon, and there's an option to display the icons in separate groups or in a compact way without any group-boundaries. The last icon allows to edit the quickstarter so you can define/edit the rules (tap on the "…" icon), reorder the bookmarks by dragging them to the desired location etc. - The Tabs window (opened via "Tabs" icon from the toolbar) supports the same contextual menus for the currently open tabs as the Tabs in the tabs toolbar. Just long-press on the entry in the window (or on the Tab in the toolbar) to open the menu
- Since iOS 16.4 it is possible to add web pages to the home screen via ShareSheet
- Drag & Drop (for bookmarks, links, downloads etc) is now also available on the iPhone (since iOS 14). If and for what you would like to have the ability to drag & drop items can be configured in the "iser interface" settings.
- Bugfix: Since iOS 15 the iOS adds its own "Search in Web" item into the text selection menu, even though iCab already has its own "search" menu item. Also the menu item of the iOS doesn't work correctly yet, it opens the search in Safari instead of the default browser. Therefore this menu item is now removed from the menu.
- Bugfix: Fixes issues with client certificates in case there were multiple available which could be used for the web site
- Bugfix: When saving web pages as PDF if these were already in PDF format did add additional print margins to the resulting PDF
- Bugfix: The native in-page search (available since iOS 16) did not remember the last search terms
- Bugfix: Fixes a potential crash for HTTP authentication
- Several minor improvements and fixes
Version 10.6.7 (December, 20th 2022)
- Since iOS 15 there's a new menu item available for the action menu, which allows to directly pause all media output (audio/video). This works on a global level, so you don't need to know which tab plays audio or video content. This menu item is also available in the contextual menu of the Tabs, so you don't need to add an additional item to the action menu.
- The user-defined Browser IDs can now have their own name which is used in the list of IDs in the settings. This allows to distinguish the IDs by name instead of by ID. If no name is given, the ID is listed.
- In the bookmarks window you can now sort bookmarks in "edit" mode. You can sort by name, URL, label and date
- In the "web site" settings there's a new option which allows to automatically redirect Youtube shorts to their "standard" youtube video page. This is useful if you prefer the full featured video player of "normal" youtube videos over the primitive video player of the "shorts".
- There are now complications available for the Apple Watch, so it's possible to lanuch the Watch App from within a watch face
- The default keyboard shortcut for „Close Tab“ has changed from Cmd-W to Cmd-Shift-W to avoid conflicts with a new shortcut of the Stage Manager on iPads. (Important: The shortcut will change automatically only if the user has not yet done any changes for the shortcuts).
- Bugfix: Fixes an issue with the auto-update feature of AdBlock Plus filters
- Bugfix: Saving web sites on WebDAV servers did not always work
- Bugfix: Searches done in private tabs will no longer added to the search history
Version 10.6.6 (August, 2nd 2022)
- There's a new button available for the toolbar to toggle the display of pictures on web sites. This can be handy if you often switch off or on pictures to speed up site loading because of slow internet connections.
- In the "web site" settings it's now possible to switch on/off the detection of XML as RSS (in case XML-based web sites are falsly treated as RSS)
- When sharing web pages in reader mode the whole content is now shared by default
- For CSS-based filters iCab Mobile is now supporting the special rules „:has-text()“ und „:upwards()“ from the „uBlock“ ad blocker
- It's now possible to manually reorder pinned Tabs within the Tabs window
- Fixes an issue with overlapping text in reader mode if the font size was increased by a very large factor
- Fixes a crash when long-pressing the reload button
Version 10.6.5 (July, 3rd 2022)
- Since iOS 15 the back/forward history of tabs can be restored again when launching the App
- In fullscreen mode the "home indicator" will be hidden now (this is the line at the bottom of the screen which can be used to switch to the home screen)
- Deleting private data can be now also assigned to a gesture
- The "smart rules" of the downloads allow to automatically export certain downloads to WebDAV servers, like this is possible with Dropbox
- The address field now adapts to the font size of the system
- Better detection of RSS feeds, in case these have no MIME type nor a file name which gives any hints to an RSS feeds
- The Watch App of iCab Mobile is now able to open web sites without showing the privacy warning of the watchOS first
- Bugfix: The search within the bookmarks did not always work
- Bugfix: The "Read now" option for an item within the reading list did sometimes show the current web site in reading mode instead of the page from the reading list
- Bugfix: When switching between private and normal mode the cookies of the normal mode won't be deleting anymore.
- Bugfix: It could sometimes happen that the login status of Firefox Sync was lost if the network connection broke down while contacting the Firefox servers.
Version 10.6.1 (April, 21st 2022)
- Adds the missing texts in the Japanese localization
- Fixes an issue when using the "export/import via WLAN" feature to transfer downloads with non-ASCII file names (like Japanese) to a computer or other devices.
- Fixes a crash when logging out of the Guest account
Version 10.6 (April, 13th 2022)
- It's now possible to import SSL certificates (client certificates) to visit web sites which require this. Importing these certificates (file extensions "der", cer" and "p12") can be done via Download-Manager, AirDrop, iTunes, or by sharing them with iCab Mobile from within other Apps. Depending of the certificate the user may need to enter the password for this certificate when opening the web site
- The twin mode will offer some new options for the proportions of the two browser windows (1:1, 1:2, 2:1) if the screen width is wide enough (iPad in landscape mode). These options can be configured for the action menu, gestures and are also available when long-pressing the "twin mode" toolbar icon.
- There's a new option for the quickstarter background. It can be now configured light, dark or follow the dark mode settings of the system
- The menu to edit the quickstarter within the quickstarter page can be now hidden or shown via "pull-down" gesture
- There's a new option to open a "Private Tab" (via action menu, Tabs window or by long-pressing the "+" in the tabs toolbar). These special private tabs are completely sealed off from the rest of the App and can not acccess any of the available data (like cookies), don't have a history and can not store any data in the browser. Closing these private Tabs will immediatelly remove all traces of them. These special private Tabs are marked with a red line in the tabs button within the tabs toolbar.
The normal "private mode" that existed before is still available and still works as before. The big difference between the private mode and the private tabs is that in private mode the user can still save certain Cookies permanently (via Cookie filters) so they don't get lost, and existing cookies can be used by all Tabs. In "private mode" all private data is only deleted when leaving the App (maybe with a delay, as configured in the privacy settings). Also the "private mode" still offers a history and there're settings where the user can configure how "private" the private mode should be.
- Added a few new search engines into the list of default search engines
- Bugfix: The search engine settings for the quickstarter were not synced via iCloud if iCloud sync was enabled
- Bugfix: Fixes a wrong background color in dark mode in the "Quick actions" settings
- Bugfix: Fixes a crash in the quickstarter when deleting a search engine in the settings while this search engine was still active in the quickstarter
- Bugfix: Fixes a crash in the Watch App of iCab Mobile when trying to open the homepage when no home page was configured.
Version 10.5.1 (February, 24th 2022)
- Adds a workaround for a serious bug of iOS 14.5 - 14.8.x which caused a crash. This iOS bug is only present in iOS 14.5 - 14.8.x, so when using older (iOS 14.4 and older) or newer (iOS 15 and newer) this update can be skipped.
Version 10.5 (February, 23th 2022)
- The Watch App of iCab Mobile can now be used to browser the web (since watchOS 6.2) directly on the watch. But there are a few watchOS-related restrictions: The watchOS always shows a privacy warning when starting a browsing session and there are no navigation buttons (back/forward) available. A session can be started by opening a bookmark or by initiating a search. On the iPhone you can pick a folder in the settings whose content will be used as the bookmarks on the watch. Alternatively it's also possible to have all Bookmarks available on the watch (configurable in the "Apple Watch" settings of iCab Mobile)
- A new design for the quickstarter allows to change icon type and size directly in the quickstarter and there's now also a search feature with multiple search engines integrated.
- A new option in the "Tabs" settings to switch to the left instead of the right Tab when closing the active Tab.
- In the settungs under "Services > Content for Share Sheet" there are new options to share the current page
- A new option in the user interface settings allows to use a flat contextual menu instead of the normal hierarchical one
- The menu for the Homescreen App icon can be empty as well.
- It's now possible to add items to directly open certain accounts to the menu of the Homescreen App icon.
- When entering an invalid URL with space characters, iCab won't interpret the input as search term, but instead will now correct the URL and open it directly.
- It is now possible to add the bookmarks and history into the action or FavIcon menu.
- The option to change the Browser ID within the action menu will now directly reload the current page with the newly selected ID
- Under iOS 15 it could happen that custom multitouch gestures were delayed if the web site was still scrolling at that time.
- Bugfix: The option to open RSS Feeds in the FavIcon or Action menu did not work
- Bugfix: Saving and filling out forms using the forms manager of iCab Mobile did no longer work under iOS 13 and older
- Bugfix: In case a link opens in another existing Tab and this Tab should stay in the background due to the Tabs settings, iCab Mobile will now show an animation so it is visible in which Tab the link opened.
- Bugfix: Fixes an issue with „HTML-Accesskeys“ under iOS 15
Version 10.4 (December, 11th 2021)
- There's a new option in the user interface settings which allows to customize the menu of the App icon on the homescreen. The iOS allows up to 4 custom menu items in the menu.
- There's a new option in the user interface settings which alows to customize the additional keys that are attached to the keyboard of the address field to help entering URLs. It's now possible to add your own keys, edit or remove existing ones.
- There's a new option available in the "Services > E-Mail/SMS" settings which when enabled will pass all E-Mail links (when shared or tapped on) to the default E-Mail app of the iOS, instead of sending the E-Mail directly from within iCab Mobile.
- There's a new option for the contextual menu available, which allows to search for other occurences in the web of the selected image on a web site. This feature uses the google reverse image search.
- The suggestions which are listed while editing text in the address field will now include matching Tabs as well, if enabled in the settings. Selecting such a suggestion will activate this tab
- The History shows the time of the last visit of a web site now.
- The contextual menu of a tab allows to shar the tab now
- In the Design settings it's now possible to configure that inactive tabs will be always darker then active ones in dark mode. This will make the toolbars slightly brighter in dark mode, so make sure that the contract between active and inactive tabs is large enough. Otherwise the inactive tabs can become brighter than the active tab, in order to create a contrast that is large enough
- The import feature of the Downloads Manager supports to import multiple files at once
- Since iOS 15 it is possible support downloads which a web site provides via "blob" URLs.
- Bugfix for iOS 15: A few shortcuts for Bluetooth keyboards didn't work anymore under iOS 15, this is fixed again.
- Improved auto-fill feature for forms in iOS 14 and newer
- Fixes an issue with the Document Provider extension for the Files App under iOS 15
Version 10.3 (October, 11th 2021)
- A bug in iOS 15 caused a crash when opening the print window and the name of the last used printer contains certain special characters. The new version of iCab Mobile avoids this issue by no longer trying to configure the last used printer as default for the print job. Therefore you may need to pick the printer manually, in case you are using multiple printers and the iOS has not picked the correct one as default.
- Because iOS 15 falsely shows the file sharing extension within the "Files" App which was supposed to be provided for older iOS releases only, this extension was removed from iCab Mobile now.
- An issue within the web engine of iOS 15 had the result that under certain circumstances the "Font size" option for web sites did not always work. This is now fixed.
- Adds a workaround for a crashing issue of the HandOff feature of the iOS. HandOff crashes when trying to share URLs which match certain patterns. The new release of iCab filters out the problematic URL patterns.
- iCab Mobile allows to switch Tabs by just swiping the whole web site to the left or right, revealing the Tab which is located at this side. This is very convenient and fast, but can cause confusion if the web site itself can be scrolled horizontally, because then the swipe gesture will first scroll as far as possible before switching to the next Tab. On the iPhone a new option allows to do a swipe gesture to the left or right on the bottom toolbar as well, which will switch Tabs even faster, regardless if horizontally scrolling is possible. This option can be enabled in the "Tabs" settings
- When entering a URL into the addressfield the browser will allow incomplete URLs. It will automatically add the missing parts (for example it will add missing URL schemes like "http://", etc) if this is possible. If by adding a missing URL scheme would not create a valid URL, the input is treated as search term and will initiate a search. In case the user wants to search for an email address, this approach did fail, because an email address is a valid domain name and when completed by "http://" would be a perfectly valid URL. So in this case iCab would have tried to opened the e-mail domain as web site instead of searching for the e-mail address. The new release of iCab will now detect email-addresses and will initiate a search for them.
- Bugfix: In case iCab was configured to automatically logout of the current account when leaving the App, and the Addressfield was activated when leaving the App, the Address suggestions window was not closed.
- Bugfix: Fixes a few issues within the default filters which are shipped with the App
Version 10.2.3 (August, 13th 2021)
- For Bluetooth keyboards it is now possible to define shortcuts to zoom web sites
- Bugfix: in certain cases the site-specific browser IDs were not evaluated
- Bugfix: Under older iOS releases the Quickstarter did no longer open the links
Version 10.2.2 (July, 31st 2021)
- Bugfix: In case the URL that was passed to the Sharesheet extension "Open in iCab Mobile" contained invalid characters, the web site could not be opened in iCab Mobile
- Includes a workaround for faulty web servers which don't encode the suggested file name for downloads correctly.
- A new workaround for an issue of the iCloud sync (in rare cases the iOS reports a file that does not exist anymore) fixes syncing problems
- Solves an issue when opeing web pages from within the quickstarter, if these web pages rely on a specific "referrer"
Version 10.2.1 (May, 19th 2021)
- There's a new option in the "Web site" settings to automatically open the original web page instead of the "Google AMP" version when using the google search engine on the iPhone.
- In the user interface settings you can now enable an additional prompt when deleting items (like bookmarks). So in case you have the tendency to accidentally delete things, you can have an additional prompt.
- In the "personal data" settings there's now a new option to change the sort criteria (title or URL) for the URL suggestions when typing a new address or search term into the address bar
- Tabs of other devices (synced via iCloud) can be now deleted from within the tabs overview window as well (only the entry in the iCloud will be deleted, not the Tabs itself on the other device). This can be useful if you still have an entry listed of devices which you don't have anymore.
- Removed the "Evernote" module because Evernote itself has abandonned this API. It is recommended to use the sharing feature of the iOS and the native Evernote App instead.
- The text-to-speech feature of the reader mode starts reading from the visible area instead always from the very beginning
- Bugfix: Fixes an issue with the Google translation module
- Bugfix: In the overview window for the Tabs the pinned tabs were not marked.
- Bugfix: solves an issue with filter lists where filters include the quote character
- Bugfix: solves an issue with the bookmarks export if the bookmarks include "smart folders". Other browsers (which do not support the "smart folder" feature) could fail in importing the bookmarks from iCab Mobile. This should no longer happen now.
Version 10.2 (March, 10th 2021)
- There's a new feature available: „Pinned Tabs“.
This feature allows to lock („pin") Tabs so that they can’t be closed accidentally anymore. Also, as long as Tabs are pinned all links to other domains will automatically open in new Tabs, so that the pinned Tab will stay on the same web page all the time. You can pin/unpin a Tab either via action menu, via contextual menu (long-press) of the Tab button within the Tabs toolbar itself or via toolbar icon. This feature can be configured in the Tabs settings. Pinned Tabs can be „sorted“,so they will be moved to the very left of the tabs toolbar, they can be reduced in size (the „compact“ option) so they need less space, and they can be marked with a color, so they stand out on the tabs toolbar. Also pinned Tabs do not have a close button, you need to unpin the tab first to make it closable again. - Fixes an issue with the google translation module
- Includes a workaround for an issue within iOS 14 which could have the result that not all filters of very large filter lists were applied
- In the text selection menu the item "select All" will be available now
- Right-clicking with mouse or trackpad will now open the contextual menu for the web site
- Updated localization for "Simplified Chinese"
Version 10.1.4 (January, 26th 2021)
- In the "user interface" settings there's now an option to change the App icon. This feature is provided exclusively for users who purchased one of the "tips" in the In-App store. It is meant as a "thank you" for those users who support the App even more than the tiny one-time fee for the App itself.
- It is now possible to use a microphone under iOS 14 on websites (for audio/video conferences). Of course the user needs to explicitly allow this
- Bugfix: The list of suggestions for the addressfield is now also working with the extra-large system fonts
- The App tries to prevent "Fingerprinting" via FavIcons
Version 10.1.3 (January, 5th 2021)
- Bugfix: Fixes a crash at App launch under iOS 14 if the App was installed from scratch
Version 10.1.2 (January, 4th 2021)
- Danish translation added
- The search from within the text selection menu will be added to the general search history now as well
- Bugfix: A few RSS feeds were downloaded instead of displayed within the built-in RSS reader
- Bugfix: Assigning a module to a gesture did no longer work under iOS 14
- Bugfix: The translation feature for a text selection didn't work anymore
- Bugfix: The User Interface will work much better with extra large system fonts
Version 10.1.1 (November, 17th 2020)
- Bugfix: Solves an issue with the domain exceptions of the filters
- Bugfix: fixes an issue with the automatic update of AdBlock Plus filter lists which do not define certain meta data about the filters. Without this information iCab could not link the updated list tio the existing link and stored the update a new list. So with each automatic update a new copy was created, which resulted in performance issue after a while because of the many copies of the list. Now this problem will be detected and resolved.
- In the "Design" settings for the user interface it is now possible to optionally define the colors by their hexadecimal values as well
Version 10.1 (November, 9th 2020)
- The support for the popular filter lists from "Adblock Plus", "Easylist", "uBlock" and compatible was improved. Now, iCab Mobile also supports the fully automatic update of these filter lists in the background. By default iCab uses the recommended update interval defined by these filter lists, but you can nevertheless change the update interval yourself (this can be useful because even though the filter lists do change all the time, the changes which are relevant for you are usually not that big, so a longer update interval can save some network traffic without any disadvantages). The option to change the update interval can be found when opening the filter list in the filter settings. Here you'll also find a button to update the list immediatelly.
In the list of filter groups you can tap on the "+" at the top right to open several web sites (AdBlock Plus, Easylist, Filterlists) from where you get get and install such filter lists. These web sites contain special "Add" or "Subscribe" links, which should be used to directly install the filters.
Previous versions of iCab Mobile did already support these third-party filter lists, though without the "auto-update" feature. So if you have imported such filters before, you should import these filters again from from their web site, so that iCab can now get the information about the auto-update and then it will be able to update the filters in the future fully automatically.
- Bugfix: Solves an issue when importing AdBlock-Plus compatible filter lists
- New option "Desktop Fullscreen Mode" for videos added in the "Website" settings. Some web sites enable the fullscreen mode for videos in a different way on mobile and desktop browsers. With this option the "Desktop Fullscreen Mode" can be enabled in general, disabled in general and enabled only in "Desktop mode" (which means the browser uses a Browser ID of a desktop browser).
Version 10.0.3 (October, 23th 2020)
- In the new filter lists CSS filters now show not only the CSS selectors but also their URL
- Bugfix: On the iPad under iOS 14 renaming of files failed in the download manager when this was done from within the search results
- Bugfix: Saving PDFs or pictures did not save these directly but instead as web archive
- Bugfix: when leaving the App while a password box for a HTTP authentication request was open, the App had to be restarted in order to open other HTTP authentication password requests.
- Bugfix: importing filters from Cloud services manually did not work.
- Bugfix: The filter settings could not be opened from within the Action menu
Version 10.0.2 (October, 15th 2020)
- Directly importing filter lists from the AdBlock Plus web site is now also possible
- Supports fullscreen mode for videos for web sites which are only supporting this via "Desktop" mode
- Fixes an incompatibility in the default search engines list when syncing it with the Mac version of iCab
- Fixes a small issue with a few links after using the contextual menu on the link
Version 10.0.1 (October, 3rd 2020)
- The new filters of version 10.0 are different to the filters of older iCab versions. Therefore the old exception filters won't work anymore. The new version of iCab Mobile did convert the old filters into the noew format, but unfortunately because of a bug converted an exception filter into a "blocking" filter instead of disabling it.
This is now fixed. Also the new version is now disabling all the old predefined filter groups which were meant for exception filters. This way many of the filter issues should be solved. Though exception filters in other filter groups can still be wrong.
In case you're using third-party filters from AdBlock Plus, Easylist, uBlock or compatible, you should simply delete these filters in the App and import them again from the web sites where these lists are provided. But you may still check the filters you've created yourself.
You'll find further information about the new filters and how the work in the FAQ (Settings > FAQ)
- Solves an issue with Firefox-Sync which had the result that the emails with the validation code for the login would not be sent.
- Fixes an issue with the new version of Dropbox.
- Fixes an issue when sending Mails from within the App (opening "mailto" links) if the Apple Mail App was deleted from the device.
Version 10.0 (September, 28th 2020)
- iCab Mobile can be configured as Default Browser under iOS 14. In order to do this, please open the "Settings" App from the homescreen, here open the settings for iCab Mobile. Now you can change the default browser to "iCab Mobile". This way other Apps which could only open a web site in Safari in the past, can now open the page in iCab Mobile (or any other browser that is configured as default browser).
- The option to use the classic web engine is no longer available. The App will always use the modern engine. Apps which can be configured as default browser are not allowed to support the classic web engine. But because in December Apple won't accept Apps and updates supporting the classic web engine anymore in general, removing the support for the classic web engine is unavoidable nevertheless. So it doesn't really matter if this is the case now or in a few weeks.
The modern engine is much more stable than the classic engine and also supports modern web standard which the classic did not, so overall the switch to the modern engine is a good thing.
However there are still a few features which can not be implemented using the modern web engine right now (like the App-specific Proxy support). So in case you rely on these features, please no not update.
- Removing the support for the classic web engine also has the effect that the update will no longer run under iOS 10 or older. The minimum iOS version is now iOS 11. The modern web engine has too many restrictions before iOS 11 so that it wouldn't be usable for iCab Mobile and its features.
- The filter manager is completely redesigned and will now support all aspects of the modern web engine and is much more powerful than before. The App will transfer old existing filters into the new system, but in case you've imported filters for the popular Ad Blockers AdBlock Plus, Easylist, uBlock or compatible in the past, you should delete these filters and import these filter lists from scratch again. The new filter manager is able to use much more details of these popular filter lists, so re-importing these filters will make these more powerful.
- The option "reload without filters" (long-pressing the "reload" button) is now working with the modern web engine as well. This option is useful to reload a web site without applying any filters only this one time, without the need to switch off the filters manually in the settings and swtich them back on later again
- Includes some more improvements for iOS 14
- Users of the Mac version of iCab can now use iCloud to sync the bookmarks, reading list, tabs and the filters with iCab Mobile. Please note that this feature requires the new version iCab 6 for the Mac.
- Because older iOS releases before iOS 11 are no longer supported, there are many internal improvements and optimiziations. Many things for which older iOS releases did not provide a solution had to be done by the App itself, but often with some restrictions because it was impossible to get all the required information. Dropping support for older iOS releases makes it possible to rely on iOS features which are only available under newer iOS releases. One example is the notification about the use of the clipbard under iOS 14 after launching iCab Mobile if it should check if the clipboard contains a URL and ask the user to open it (this feature can be enabled/disabled in the "App Start" settings). Newer iOS releases make it possible to check for URLs within the clipboard without the need for the App to actually read in the content of the clipboard and then check if the content is a URL itself, so this notification under iOS 14 can be avoided.
Version 9.17.1 (July, 17th 2020)
- There's a new "undo" feature available for bookmarks, so you can undo the last change that was done to the bookmarks. In order to undo changes within the bookmarks, enable the "Edit" mode and then you can find the "undo" botton in the toolbar of the bookmarks window. iCab Mobile will also show the date of the version you can go back to.
- Fixes an issue with the modern web engine and downloads. The downloads did not always use the site cookies, which a few web sites don't like and therefore return an error.
- Fixes an issue with the modern web engine, which sometimes failed to play videos after switching users accounts
Version 9.17 (July, 5th 2020)
- When using the modern web engine it could happen that Tabs lost their content if the device is running out of free memory (usually when a large number of Tabs were open and/or these sites consumed a large amount of memory). Now, iCab Mobile stores additional information about each Tab to make sure that these can be restored in this case nevertheless.
- The site-specific Browser IDs are now also available for the modern web engine. Please note that because of limitations of the modern engine, the correct ID might not be applied in case a server redirects the browser to a completely other address. But this case isn't that common, so most of the time this limitation shouldn't be an issue
- Since iOS 13.4 the modern web engine has an issue with selecting text on web sites, which doesn't work reliable anymore. As a workaround it was possible to enable the link preview for the contextual menu, which had the side effect that the text selection worked again. The new version of iCab Mobile contains a better workaround for this issue so that it is no longer necessary to enable the link preview.
- Fixes a crash when revoking the permission to access the photo album, but still trying to save photos in the album.
- Note: Apple will no longer accept the classic web engine after December 2020. Therefore iCab Mobile will now use the modern engine as default. But you can still switch back to the classic engine in the settings, if you need to.
Version 9.16 (June, 19th 2020)
- Firefox Sync introduced a new validation method for logins. iCab Mobile supports this new validation method now.
- Fixes a bug when parsing "x-callback-url" URLs where a "query" part exists which contains certain characters
- Fixes a few modules which failed to work properly under iOS 13.
- When transferring files from the "Files" App to iCab Mobile, iCab won't create another copy of the file if this files came from iCab Mobile in the first place (the source within the "Files" App was iCab Mobile itself)
- Solves an issue where the "pull-to-refresh" gesture loads the quickstarter instead of reloading the current page
- The "Rules" within the Downloads are now also applied when saving files into the downloads (files received from other Apps or when saving web pages), previously these rules where only applied for real downloads
- Fixes an issue importing cookie filters
- Solves an issue with the contextual menu when the link preview for contextual menus is enabled
Version 9.15.5 (April, 27th 2020)
- Because iOS 13 introduces new system-wide three finger gestures for copy & paste operations and these system gestures are even active when nothing can be copied or pasted, iCab's own 3-finger gestures could no longer be used. Now, if the user has configured 3-finger gestures in iCab Mobile for certain actions iCab disables the system gestures as long as the keyboard is closed. So iCab's own 3-finger gestures can be used again, and while the keyboard is open the system gestures are activated again and can be used for copy & paste operations as well.
- The preview for the contextual menu can be now configured separately for links in web sites and bookmarks. A new bug in iOS 13.4 has the result that no text can be selected on web sites anymore when using the "modern" web engine and if the preview for the contextual menu for links is switched off. As a workaround for this iOS bug you should enable the preview for the contextual menu. But because you might not want to have the previews enabled for bookmarks as well, you can configure this separately.
- There's a new option in the "Privacy" settings where you can configure what to do when loading a resource with an untrusted certificate. iCab Mobile can either ask what to do (block temporarily or forever, allow temporarily or forever), or if the resource should be blocked right away (without any alert box asking what to do).
- The screenshot feature (in the settings under "Tools") provides a new option where iCab Mobile can ask each time if you want to create a screenshot of the whole page or only the visible area.
Version 9.15 (March, 27th 2020)
- A bug within the new iOS 13.4 can prevent that you can still select text on web sites. This iOS bug only affects iPads when using the modern web engine and only if the option to show a link preview together with the contextual menu is disabled. Therefore the App will now enable the preview for the contextual menu by default on iPads running iOS 13.4 when using the modern web engine, until Apple fixes this bug again. You can still disable the preview in the "Uuser Interface" settings in case you like the old behavior more and if you do not need to select (and copy/paste) text. This new iOS 13.4 bug does not show up on an iPhone.
- The "URL" icon of the fullscreen mode shows the FavIcon menu for the long-press gestures
- The "Reload" icon (toolbar or fullscreen mode) now shows additional options for a long-press gesture.
- The ShareSheet can be opened via shortcut for bluetooth keyboards.
- In the Proxy settings (only for the classic web engine) there's a new switch „Basic Auth“. If the proxy uses "Basic Auth" as authorization scheme, you should enable this switch to bypass a bug of the iOS which could result in failing authentication because the iOS is not accepting the provided credentials but instead looks for them in the system settings (where these are not stored).

Version 9.14.6 (January, 14th 2020)
- New web debugging module added: "Eruda"
- Now, files from the downloads can be also stored in the quickstarter
- Fixes an issue with a bluetooth keyboard and the modern web engine: it was impossible to switch between twin browsers using the cursor keys.
- Fixes an issue where the shortuct Shift-Tab to navigate backwards between form field using a bluetooth keyboard did not work.
- If the App was configured not to make the downloads available from within iTunes, and files were copied to the App via iTunes, the files could not be copied to the downloads section if the filenames already exist. Now the App will rename the files in case there are any file name conflicts.
- Added a workaround for web sites which return invalid file name definitions for downloads

- Bugfix: The additional keys for the address input which are attached to the keyboard on the iPhone could not be scrolled if the dark mode was enabled
Version 9.14.4 (October 25th 2019)
- Adds a workaround for an iOS 13 issue with the virtual keyboard. It could happen that while typing on keyboard elements which are hidden by the keyboard could be triggered as well.
- Bugfix: If the "design" setting configures white text/icons on a dark background for the user interface, the text cursor of the addressfield could become invisible.
- Bugfix: The modern web engine failed to parse CSS-based filters with a very large number of CSS selectors
- Bugfix: If the auto-fullscreen mode is set to "scroll" the scrolling couldn't always be stopped by tapping on the screen while the App is in transition between fullscreen and normal mode
- Fixes a crash when using the modern web engine if the malware/phishing detection is enabed and a malware/phishing site is visited.
Version 9.14.3 (October 9th 2019)
- Bugfix: Solves an issue of iOS 13 which made it sometimes difficult to set or move the text cursor in the address field

- Bugfix: Under iOS 13 the icons in the contextual menu (with preview enabled) had the wrong color if the dark mode was enabled.
- Bugfix: Under iOS 13 the status bar was too bright if the dark mode was enabled.
Version 9.14 (September 18th 2019)
- There are changes for the dark mode of iCab Mobile under iOS 13 in order to avoid conflicts with the new system-wide dark mode or iOS 13. Under iOS 13 the user interface of iCab Mobile will be always linked to the dark mode of the iOS. So if you enable the dark mode in the iOS, the user interface of iCab Mobile will automatically use the dark mode as well. iCab's own dark mode setting will only affect web sites now (which is because many web sites do not work fine with the dark mode, so they do need to be handled individually). Under iOS 12 and older, the dark mode setting of iCab Mobile will still be applied to the user interface and web site at the same time, just as before. Because of this change the dark mode setting of iCab Mobile will be moved to the "Web site" setting under iOS 13, while it remains in the User Interface settings under iOS 12 and older.
- Under iOS 13 the contextual menu for links (when using the modern Web Engine) and bookmarks can now have a preview of the linked page. This can be configured in the settings (Settings > User Interface > Menüs > Preview for contextual menu). Under iOS 12 and older this preview is only available on devices with "3D Touch" (deep-press on a link), the contextual menu uses a seperate gesture (long-press on the link) and is available on all devices. Under iOS 13 both is now combined and also works on devices without 3D Touch hardware, both gestures (deep-press and long-press) are treated the same. While the preview can be useful, it can be annoying as well because it needs a lot of additional space. Therefore you can configure whether the preview should be shown together with the contextual menu or not.
- For warnings related to untrusted server certificates, the App provides an option to directly inspect the certificate chain.
- Solves an issue of iOS 12 related to preserving the meta data in photos when saving them into the album

- Fixes an issue with the "password fill out" button that is attached to the keyboard on the iPad, which did not open the password ShareSheet.
- The menu of the "Reading Mode" now has a fixed position and doesn't scroll along with the web site anymore.
- When server certificates are untrusted, the App presents some more information about the source of the problem.
Version 9.13 (August 27th 2019)
- New option to switch the WebEngine (requires iOS 11 or later).
The iOS provides two APIs for its web engine, the 'classic' and the 'modern' one. The latter is supposed to replace the former, unfortunately it's still lacking a lot of features of the no longer officially maintained 'classic' API. Therefore iCab Mobile lets you pick the web engine you want to use. Depending of the selected Engine, some features may not be available.
Here's a short summary of the differences and the available features:

Version 9.11 (May 30th 2018)
- There's new feature, called "Dark Mode". The dark mode draws user interface and web site with dark colors, so this mode is great for reading in the night. Also on the iPhone X this mode can save battery power.
The Dark mode can be enabled in the User Interface settings, or via toolbar icons or by an entry in the Action menu (Toolbar and Action menu can be configured in the User Interface settings).
The way the App presents web sites when the dark mode is enabled can be configured as well. The default presentation is to change the background to black and use a light text, but you can also just dim the web page, present it in sepia or grayscales or invert all colors. iCab Mobile can save these settings individually for each web site, so if there are issues with one type of presentation, you can try another one.
You can configure the Dark Mode in the Settings under "User Interface > Dark Mode" manually. Much easier it is to just use the icon for the dark mode in the browser toolbar: just tap on it to switch on or off the dark mode, long-press on the icon to directly pick a certain presentation for the dark mode.
- Searching within the Bookmarks, Settings or other windows can be now done using a bluetooth keyboard as well. Use the keyboard shortcut Cmd-F to activate the search field.

- Bugfix: In the download manager window, some of the menu options were not reachable through VoiceOver
- Bugfix: A few missing VoiceOver hints were added

- Bugfix: The new iOS 11 introduces a "webRTC.PeerConnection" object in its web engine, but does not yet use it. This new object can expose the IP address in VPN networks. The new version of iCab Mobile will overwrite this object to prevent the exposure of the IP address.
- Bugfix: Solves an issue with automatically filling out forms when a web site splits the login into two forms (one for the name and one for the password) and changes the type for the "name" field between these two forms
- Bugfix: The "Auto-Refresh" module did not work correctly if the option "autostart" was not active
- Bugfix: Now, the downloads will be checked for changes in the background (for example if iTunes or other Apps have added or deleted files while iCab was not running), to prevent delays when launching the App and there are thousands of files stored in the downloads.
- Bugfix: When saving many pictures at once into the album in the downloads window it could happen that not all of these images were saved.
Version 9.10.7 (March 7th 2018)
- In the Download Manager there's a new option to sort the files.
- In the Download Manager you can now define rules to post-process downloads. These rules allow to move different file types to different folders, copy pictures into the Album fully automatically, and much more. These rules apply to finished downloads in the "root folder" of the downloads window. Create or edit these rules using the new button "Rules" in the toolbar of the downloads window.
Just like the "smart folder" feature for the bookmarks, this feature is a bonus for all users who have supported the App development by giving a tip (Settings > Store) and also all new users who have bought the App within the last year or buy it now.
- There's a new search feature available in the Tabs window as well
- Since iOS 11: While searching within the Bookmarks, it is possible to directly delete or edit the bookmarks of the search result (via swipe gesture to the left)

- Bugfix: Thumbnail images (Tabs, Quickstarter) on the iPhone X could have black bars at one side
- Bugfix: On the iPhone X the vertical twin mode did not work correctly
- Optimized the iCloud sync
- The login into Dropbox ("Services" settings) will ignore the Browser ID setting now. Dropbox does not like all IDs
- Bugfix: for the "x-callback-url" protocol the response "x-success"/"x-error" will be sent after a small delay in order to prevent a short freeze when running under iOS 11.
Version 9.10.2 (November 9th 2017)
- Fixes an issue on an iPhone X where the address field was misplaced while extering an address.

- In the download manager it is now possible to copy the address even if a download is not yet finished
- In the User Interface settings there's new option to switch off the additional keys for the URL keyboard.
Version 9.10.0 (September 25th 2017)
- Added Drag & Drop support for the iPad under iOS 11.
You can drag Bookmarks, History entries, Reading list items, Links and the FavIcon as web addresses and Download entries as files. The App is able to receive web addresses in the bookmarks and reading list window to store the address as new bookmarks, and in the URL field, the Tabs in the Tabs toolbar and in the web site area to open the address directly. The App also receives files in the Downloads Manager to store the file there. Dragging a web adress into the downloads window will download the file, dragging a file into a tab will directly open it here.
You can also directly drag a login entry from the 1Password App into a web site with login form, to fill out the form.
In the "User Interface" settings you can even disable the "Drag" operation for the bookmarks, history, downloads and reading list. This can be useful if you do not use Drag & Drop. The problem is that Drag operations and the contextual menu are both initiated by long-pressing on an item. If there's a contextual menu available for an item for which Drag & Drop is provided as well, the contextual menu will be delayed by the iOS, so it will open after about 3 sec instead of after only 1 sec. So switching off the "Drag" operation will reduce the delay back to 1 sec again.
- New option in the Privacy setting to clear all the private data at once
- iCab Mobile supports the new "Files" App of iOS 11. The downloads of iCab Mobile can be accessed from within the "Files" App if the "Downloads Sharing" option in the Network settings of iCab Mobile is either set to "iTunes" (in which case the files are accessible by iTunes and via "On your device" within the Files App) or set to "Apps" (in which case the files are accessible via "Files of iCab Mobile"). It you switch off the "Downloads Sharing" option in iCab Mobile, the downloads are not accessible by other Apps at all.

The "Folder" icon in the bottom toolbar lets you move the selection to a new location, the and "Trash" icon will delete th selected bookmarks.

Version 9.8.5 (April 24th 2017)
- There's a new option "Auto" for the option "Display IDN" (IDN: International Domain Name) in the Network settings. This option will display all IDNs with the exception of those which contain characters that look similar to those with the ASCII range. This way it is easy to identify phishing attacks which use IDNs for fake domain names, so you do not need to switch off the display of IDNs completely.
- iCab Mobile supports the "Handoff" feature of the iOS. Handoff can used to transfer the whole session (all tabs) from one iOS device to another or the current Tab to Sfarai on a Mac. Handoff can be switched off in the "Services" settings.
- In the Address/Searchfield you can use the keyboard shortcut Cmd-Enter and Alt-Enter on a bluetooth keyboard to autocomplete the input as domain, where Cmd-Enter would automatically append ".com" and Alt-Enter append the counry-specific top level domain, if missing

Version 9.8 (March 7th 2017)
- It is now possible to inspect the SSL certificates of web sites which use encrypted connections ("https"). To display the certificate chain and certificate details, just use the "SLL certificates" options from the "Fav Icons" menu (tap on the icon at the left of the address field to open the Fav Icon menu). This option can be also added to the Action menu (Settings > User Interface > Menus). To see the full length signature, public key or fingerprints, just tap on these entries.
- There's a new "Reader mode" available. The Reader mode completely runs locally on the device and does not need an external service, so it will also work on web sites which are protected with a password and will provide the best privacy. The mode removes all the clutter of a web site and only keeps the main content in order to present it in way that is easy to read. The new page layout will provide options to change the color scheme and text size and also provides a speech output feature. The "Reader mode" can be activated using a "module" from the modules menu, or it can be accessed via "Read now" feature, which can be configured to either use the new reader mode or the Instapaper service in the "Services" settings.
- A new extension was added which allows other Apps to access the downloads of iCab Mobile via "Document Picker" sheet of the iOS. The Document Picker is a system sheet, where cloud storage Apps can provide their files. iCab Mobile uses the same sheet to provide its own downloads (in the settings, you can configure if iCab Mobile should provide its files to other Apps or keep them private).
This new extension is also used by the iOS web engine (iOS 9 and later) when uploading files, which makes it possible to use the native upload feature of the iOS web engine to upload files from iCab Mobile (before, uploading files from iCab Mobile was only possible when iCab did use its own custom upload feature, but this had the disadvatage that it could not work on all web sites. The option to use iCab's custom upload feature is still available, but is only recommended when still using iOS 7 or 8).
Important: Under "Settings > Network > Sharing Downloads" you can configure if the downloads should be shared and how. You can switch off the sharing of downloads completely (in this case the Document Picker and iTunes can't access the downloads at all), let iTunes access the downloads (useful if you want to transfer download to a PC or Mac) or to allow sharing the downloads via Document Picker with other Apps and the native upload feature of the iOS web engine. - The Module "Black & White" has a new option for the color scheme "Sepia"
- The "Export" features do now provide an option to export the history as HTML file
- When opening "Popover" windows the background is now dimmed more than the iOS would do this by default, so the popover can be better distinuished from the background.
- Shows icons in the contextual menu and action menu
- When inspecting hash values (fingerprints) for Downloads and SSL certificates, it is possible to copy these into the clipboard.
- When renaming files in the downloads window, the cursor will now be positioned in front of the file extension. This makes it easier to edit the file name and keeping the file extension untouched.
- If VoiceOver is enabled, iCab mobile will now play soft ticks while a web page is loading. This makes it easier for blind users to find out when loading a web page has finished (especially for slow internet connections)
- The Watch App (watchOS 2 and later) will now have labels for VoiceOver
- Bugfix: When creating new bookmarks, the label color was not saved. This did only work when editing existing bookmarks.
- Bugfix: Exporting data to dropbox could fail, if creating a backup of an existing file on the Dropbox server did fail
- Bugfix: the URL shortener module does work again with Google's shortener service "goo.gl"
Version 9.7 (January 25th 2017)
- Now, iCab is able to warn the user when visiting web sites which contain malware or try to steal personal data (phishing). This feature uses the "Google Safe Browsing" service and can be enabled in the "Services" settings. This feature works by regularly loading and updating a database from google's server which contains the information about malware and phishing sites. All the checks for malicious web sites are done on the device itself, so your browsing activity is not exposed to a third party.
- In the Download Manager it is possible to save multiple pictures at once in the photo album. Use the "Edit" mode to select multiple files.
- There's a new menu item "Download (Rename file)" available for the contextual menu of a link, which will prompt the user to enter file name that should be used for the file before it is dowloaded. This download option ignores the file name that is suggested by the web page and will use the one that is provided by the user. The standard "Download" item is still available and will just use the file name that is suggested by the web page.
- In the contextual menu for a file of the download manager there's a new item "Information". This option shows some additional information about a file: name, size, download date, server date and several hash values (MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256). The hash values do allow to check if the file is valid, in case the web page provides the correct hash values for comparison

- Now, bookmarks can also have color labels attached. This can be useful to mark bookmarks in a special way. The bookmarks icon within the bookmarks window will be tinted with the label color. On an iPad the label color will be shown as underline in the bookmarks toolbar. (Part of the InApp Purchase or free if App was purchased after 2015/08/01)
- You can also create "smart folders" within the bookmarks. Smart folders are special folders in which you can not put bookmarks manually like you would do this with normal folders. Instead you define rules (based on URL, title, label, date, etc.), which will automatically select the bookmarks which will be shown in a smart folder. The smart folders will be automatically updated. One useful example for a smart folder could be one that will always show the newly added bookmarks (regardless where they are located), by defining a rule which selects all bookmarks created in the last 2 weeks. (Part of the InApp Purchase or free if App was purchased after 2015/08/01)

Version 9.4 (April 30th 2016)
- New Filter feature for Cookies added. These filters do allow to block or accept cookies based on the Cookie domain. Just like other filters, the order of these cookie filters is important in case multiple filters match: the first matching filter wins. The new cookie filters also allow to prevent that certain importnant cookies will be deleted if one of the features is used which clear all cookies at once. Which means the new cookie filter also replaces the old cookie white list feature.

Version 9.3.2 (March 2nd 2016)
- Bugfix: On an iPad Pro it was not possible to set a password for the Kiosk mode.
Version 9.3.1 (February 20th 2016)
- The new brightness controller from the last update, which could also dim popover windows and alert boxes, had some issues with certain iOS-controlled sheets, which did in parts no longer react on touches in case the brightness was reduced. Therefore I reverted this feature to the previous status again.
Version 9.3 (February 9th 2016)
- Improved and much more complete support for AdBlockPlust/EasyList filters added. Now iCab Mobile supports not only the URL-based filters but also the CSS-based filters from the AdBlocPlus/EasyList filter lists. iCab Mobile also supports the special installation links for the official AbBlockPlus plugins of Desktop browsers, which are usually provided by web sites offering these filter filter lists. So you only need to tap on these links to directly install the provided filter lists. Also for updating the filters, just tap on the links again to update the filters. It can not be easier. The old method of installing the filter via Downoad Manager is still available, in case you get the filters from other sources or you want to edit the filters before installing them. When installing the AdBlock/EasyList filters, icab stores these in a separate group within the URL filters and the CSS filters, so you can easily locate, activate or deactivate these filters.
Please note: it is not recommended to use these AdBlock/EasyList filters on older iOS devices (like the iPhone 4, iPad 2 or iPad mini 1). These filter lists include an extremely large number of filters, which might cause speed and memory issues on these older devices. - The CSS-based filters are reorganized. The old filter lists for CSS IDs and CSS classes are now replaced by filter lists for CSS selectors. The old ID and class-based filters will be automatically converted into the new CSS selector-based filters. The new filters are more powerful and also compatible with most of the AdBlock/Easylist filters. The new CSS filters are also organized in groups (like the URL-based filters), which makes it easier to enable or disable only certains ets of filters.
- Improved browser for pictures from the download manager.
- Added new toolbar icons for scrolling page-wise
- The brightness control will now also have an effect on popup windows and alertboxes.
- The lists with the URL and search suggestions and the search engines which are shown while entering an address or serach term in the URL/Search field will be now displayed on one or two columns depending of the available screen space
- There will be now additional keys attached to the URL keyboard on the iPhone as well, to make it easier to enter URLs. These additional keys will only appear if there's enough space available (e.g. on iPhone 4/5 not in landscape orientation)
- Added a workaround for the missing "Copy" item in the text selection menu of iOS 9
- Bugfix: modules which would open a new window could fail in case the option to allow popup windows was disabled
- Bugfix: fixes an issue with the toolbars when switchin form fullscreen mode to normal mode on an iPhone when the status bar is twices as large as usual (for example while other devices are connected via personal hotspot)
- Bugfix: fixes a few issues with multi-touch gestures while the twin browser mode is enabled on the iPad
- Bugfix: fixes minor issues with the internal proxy settings
Version 9.2 (January 15th 2016)
- Improved "Fill out Forms" feature which will now also support forms defined by invalid or broken HTML code
- Friends of the AdBlock plus/EasyList filters can now directly use these filter lists within iCab Mobile. You need to download your favorite filter lists from one the available AdBlock plus/EasyList sources, then tap on the filters file in the download manager and select the "Import AdBlock/EasyList Filter" menu item. This is all you need to do. iCab Mobile will then import all filters from the filter list it can use (not all filters in those lists can be used) and creates a new filter set in the filter manager. All the filters will be converted into iCab's own filter format, so you can enable/disable and edit them just like any other filters. Please note: it is not recommended to use these AdBlock/EasyList filters on older iOS devices (like the iPhone 4, iPad 2 or iPad mini 1). These filter lists include an extremely large number of filters, which might cause speed and memory issues on these older devices.
- On the iPhone when using the combined URL/Search field, the icon of the currently selected search engine will be displayed at the left of the field while entering the search term or URL. This way you can directly see which search engine will be used for the search. Tapping on this icon will also directly show the list of search engines where you can pick another one for the search.
- When filling out forms, the keyboard has another button attached which can be used to put the content of the clipboard into the currently selected form field
- When filling out forms on an iPad under iOS 9 and later, it is now possible to move the buttons that are attached to the keyboard (fill form, save form, QR code scanner and paste clipboard)to the left or right using a swipe gesture. So if the buttons overlap certain elements of the web site, these can be moved to the other side.
- New Module added to call the "CamelCamelCamel" service, which lists the price history of a product on an Amazon product page
- Added a workaround for misconfigured web servrs which explicitly ask the browser to download JSON files, that should definitely not be downloaded

- Added a workaround for the case where network connections time out for no reason
Version 9.1.1 (December 22nd 2015)
- For web forms it is now possible to activate the QR code scanner using an icon that is attached to the keyboard. This makes it possible to scan bar codes and QR codes and directly fill out web forms with the recognized text.
- Bugfix: the status bar could not be switched off
- Bugfix: under iOS 7the twin browser mode is no longer available. iOS 7 has some issues with this mode. So the twin browser mode is only available under iOS 8 and newer.
Version 9.1 (December 16th 2015)
- For the iPad there's a new "Twin Browser" mode available. This mode can be activated via "Action" menu or via icon from the toolbar. When active it splits the screen in two parts and in each part you get a seperate browser instance ("Action" menu and Toolbar icons can be configured in the "User Interface" settings).
In "Twin Browser" mode you can display two web sites side by side, which is especially useful on the large iPad Pro screen.
Each browser instance has its own Tabs and URL/search field, but they share the same bookmarks, settings and downloads. Using the contextual menu you have the choice to open links in the current or the other browser. Using the Action menu or by long-pressing the toolbar icon, you can swap the browser instances. And from within the listview of the tabs menu, you can also access the tabs of the other browser.
When using a physical keyboard, you can use the arrow left/right keys to switch the focus to the left or right browser.
The "Twin Browser" mode is available when there's at least as much room left for each browser instance as an iPhone screen. As soon the screen space goes below that limit, the second browser instance will be hidden again (which will happen only in portrait orientation when the Split-Screen mode of the iOS is activated in addition)
- The hardware keyboard for the new iPad Pro from Apple does not have an ESC key. Therefore iCab Mobile will also accept the shortcut Cmd-W wherever it would expect the ESC key.
- The "search on current page" is now also available as icon for the toolbar.
- A new "Sharing" extension does allow to add a web site from within other Apps in the bookmarks or reading list of iCab Mobile or open these as Tab.

- The App now remembers the font size for each web site. In the "Web sites" settings you can also modify the font sizes.
- In the filter settings there's a new option to enable logging of third-party content. When activated, iCab Mobile will collect the URLs of all resources that are loaded by a web site which are coming from a thrid-party (from another domain). Within the list of these resources you can tap on an address to create a filter. This new feature will make it much easier to create filters for ads and other unwanted resources. The "i" button within this list will open a preview of the resource.
- In addition to the existing URL-based filters, there's now another CSS-based filter feature available. For these filters you create a list of CSS class and ID names for a URL (the URL can contain wildcard characters), all page elements whose CSS class or ID is among these of the filters will be hidden.
- Much better support of the "split screen" mode of iOS 9 on the iPad.
- The scrollbar can be now also activated/deactivated via gestures
- New module 'YouTube PiP' for the iPad added. This module will open videos on the YouTube site so that they can be watched using the new Picture-in-Pucture mode of iOS 9
- There's a new icon "New Tab" available that can be added to the toolbars
- Creating ZIP archives within the download manager does now require less main memory

- Solves an issue when automatically filling out forms which expect to see "keyboard events"
- If all accounts but the Admin account are switched off, the window to select an account will be skipped when possible.

- The Bookmarks icon will now include a "star" if the currently loaded web site is already bookmarked.
- There's a new search feature within the bookmarks (scroll to the very top of the bookmarks window to reveal the search field), which searches for bookmarks within the current bookmarks folder and all its sub-folders
- Solves an issue when scrolling with a bluetooth keyboard. A few web sites which load page elements only when these are scrolled into view did not recognize the scrolling via physical keyboard.
- Fixes an issue with the built-in "Proxy" settings
- Added new icons for the toolbars to switch to the next and previous Tabs.
- Configuring the toolbar icons and the action and contextual menus is more comfortable now. Additional buttons do allow to directly move icons from one section to another.
- Fixes issues with the "classic" design under iOS 9
- Fixes an issue with the "pasteboard" under iOS 9 if iCab is configured to automatically scan the pasteboard for URLs to open them
Version 8.10.1 (September 5th 2015)
- Fixes issues with the Firefox Sync 1.5 support. Only a few firefox sync accounts were affected, but using Firefox Sync with these accounts could cause a crash or the bookmarks were not retrieved correctly. These issues should no longer occur.
Version 8.10 (August 18th 2015)
- Firefox-Sync 1.5 is now supported (currently only read access). The old Firefox Sync 1.1 can be still used, in case you still run your own FF-Sync 1.1 server.

Version 8.9 (July 8th 2015)
- iCab Mobile does now include an App for the Apple Watch. The Watch App is a remote control for iCab Mobile, so you can navigate, zoom, scroll, open bookmarks, links, the homepage, switch tabs or sitch on/off the fullscreen mode. It is also possible to let iCab read a web site using speech output.
The remote control can be useful when using iCab Mobile for a presentation.
Each user account can have its own settings for the Apple Watch. The remote control via Watch can be allowed or disallowed for each user account. So controlling iCab Mobile from the watch is only possible if a user is currently logged in, who has allowed remote control via watch.
Also each user can configure which bookmarks are available from the watch. It is useful for presentations to only have those bookmarks on the watch which are needed, navigating through the whole bookmarks hierarchy is not very comfortable on the small watch display. To define a special set of bookmarks for the watch, open the bookmarks window and while in "edit" mode tap on the folder whose content should be available from the watch. Then switch on the option "Apple Watch" for this folder. - In the settings for the Kiosk mode there a new feature to store local files in icab Mobile to be used as the content of the Kiosk. This way the Kiosk can work completely offline. To copy the files into iCab Mobile, open the "Kiosk content" settings and go to the "Local files" section. Now you can connect the device with your Mac or PC and use iTunes and its File Sharing feature to copy files to iCab Mobile. These files will be listed in iCab Mobile in the "local files" view. You can select a file as home page for the Kiosk by simply tapping on it in the list.

This feature requires to define a URL which is used to launch the other App and pass data to this App. For this URL there are certain placeholders which iCab recognizes and which will be replaced automatically. These placeholders represent the URL, parts of the URL, the title or the text selection of the currently displayed web page. The following placeholders are supported:
placeholder replaced by {%host%} host name (percent-escaped) {%path%} path (percent-escaped) {%query%} query (percent-escaped) {%specifier%} URL specifier (percent-escaped) {%url%} URL (percent-escaped) {%title%} page title (percent-escaped) {%selection%} text selection (percent-escaped) %host% host name %path% path %query% query %specifier% URL specifier *) %url% url %title% page title (percent-escaped) %selection% current text selection (percent-escaped) *) The "url specifier" is the URL excluding the URL scheme and the ":",

- It is possible to lanuch Apps using a gesture. This feature requires that the user knows the URL scheme of the destination App. It is possible to pass the URL of the current web site to this App, it is even possible to modify this URL. You need to define a URL which contains at least the URL scheme of the destination App (the App will be launched without any additional information). But you can define this URL yourself according to your requirements. There are certain keys which iCab recognizes and which will be replaced automatically. These keys represent the URL or parts of the url of the currently displayed web page. There are the supported keys: %url%, %path%, %host%, %query%, %specifier%. Use one or more of these keysif you need to pass the URL or parts of the URL of the currently displayed web page to the App you want to start with this gesture... - As of Apple's request, iCab Mobile now has to actively block downloads from Youtube. So you can no longer download youtube videos for offline
watching, but this does not affect other sites. The download still works on other sites as before, including videos, as long as they are not coming
from Youtube.
You can read more about this in the iCab Blog
Version 6.8 (January 4th 2013)
- The reading list can be now linked to a "Pocket" account as well. In the settings you can select if the reading list should be used locally on the device only (not synced to an external service) or if it should be linked to a Pocket or Readability account
- In the "Settings" App of the iOS you can configure iCab to prevent that the device is going to sleep while downloads are running and iCab remains the foreground App. This can be useful for all the users who often download larger files and want to prevent that the devices goes to sleep and stops the downloads after a while. - When saving a page as Screenshot, iCab can now not only create a screenshot from the visible area of the web page, but also from the whole web page. This can be configured in the "Settings" App of the device. Here there's also a setting to configure if the screenshot should be of the "Retina" or "normal" resolution. The latter can be useful when screenshots for the whole web page are enabled, because these can require a huge amount of memory.
- On the iPad the bookmarks window remains open now, when opening a bookmark in a new Tab or background Tabs (via tap-and-hold gesture within the bookmarks window)
- There are some refinements for the file upload feature of iCab Mobile, so when using iCab's own upload capabilities instead of the ones of iOS 6 (which is required if you want to upload other files than just photos from the photo album), the selecting of files should now work much more reliable on "more complicated" web pages.
- Saving screenshots in the clipboard will now work under iOS 6 again.

New Features
- Supports the new screen resolution of the new iPhone 5 and the new iPod Touch.
- In the downloads manager you can now organize your files in folders
- Files and folders in the download manager can be archived as ZIP file, and ZIP files can be extracted
- In the downloads manager it is possible to select multiple files and folders and apply actions to the whole selection.
- Within the Bookmarks you can now open whole folders in new Tabs at once. Tap-and-hold on a folder to get the option to open it in tabs. If the folder contains more than a certain number of bookmarks, the user needs to confirm this. Also iCab will open only a limited number of Tabs at once to avoid that the device is running out of memory immediately. The number of Tabs that can be opened at once and the threshold for asking the user for confirmation depends on the device.
- On the iPad it is now also possible to change the color scheme of the browser toolbar
- Selecting a new color for the color scheme is now much more intuitive and much simpler
- New Option in the "Action menu": send page URL via SMS (only on iPhone)
- In the Action menu all of the screenshot items are now moved to a "Screenshot" submenu, and the a "Sharing" submenu does now contain the items to share with Twitter, Facebook, SinaWeibo, Mail, SMS
- On the iPad the popover window for the Search field does now have a button to switch between the list of search engines and the list of search suggestions. iCab will now also provide a list of recent searches for the suggestions list, in addition to the suggestions from google or yahoo.
- In the settings for the search engines it is now possible to provide a text encoding which is used to encode the search term. Usually this option can be left blank, iCab will then use UTF-8, the standard encoding which almost all search engines do support. But in certain countries (like China) it is very common to use a certain other encoding (like GB2312). So this can be now configured in iCab as well.
- The App contains the new version of the DropBox framework (the old API will be switched OFF in December). The new API/frameworks uses a different authentication method, so you have to login again
- Long-tap on the bookmarks icon will directly open the history
- On the iPhone the QuickStarter will now use smaller thumbnail images so now you can see 9 icons instead of only 4 without scrolling.
New Features for iOS 6
- Support for Passbook added. Tickets which are downloaded from the web can be added to the Passbook App directly within iCab Mobile.
- The back/forward history is saved and restored under iOS 6, so even if iCab Mobile is terminated while it is in the background, the back/forward history of all Tabs will no longer be lost.
- Under iOS 6 the URL in the URL field is drawn with multiple colors so that the different parts of the URL can be identified more easily
- iCab can now also share the page via FaceBook and SinaWeibo using the sharing feature of the iOS (just like this is done with Twitter since iOS 5)
- There's an option to switch between the file upload capabilities of iCab and those of the web engine of the iOS. This option is only available under iOS 6 (the web engine of older iOS releases does not support file uploads). The upload capabilities of the iOS and from iCab are not the same, therefore it is important that the user can select which one is used. The iCab solution can not work on all web pages, but can upload any files, not only photos and videos, it can scale images before uploading them and it can preserve EXIF data for photos. The iOS solution can only upload photos and videos, but no other files, EXIF data will be lost and images can not be scaled.
New Options in the "Settings" App
- There's now an option to configure the HTTP "Referrer". The referrer can be sent "always" (the default, which is also done by other browsers), "never" (most secure, but not always practical because many web pages incorrectly rely on the Referrer) and "Same Domain" (which sends the Referrer only within the same domain and is usually a good choice to get a goods security/privacy but also avoid many issue with web pages which are not using the Referrer correctly).
- There's now an option to configure the HTTP header "accept-language"
- It is now possible to switch on/off the Copy&Paste menu for the Kiosk mode
- It is now possible to switch on/off the header (URL) and footer (page number) lines when printing
- The setting "Download Attachments" has now an additional option "Auto". This option will immediately start a Download without asking the user, when the server has explicitly declared the file as "download". This allows to download files from many file hosters which limit the number of downloads within a certain time frame to one. The default setting of asking the user first before downloading the file will be counted as 2 downloads by these file hosters, because the download is paused while the user has not yet given an answer. The option "YES" will always ask the user if a file was declared as download by the server. "NO" means that files which the iOS can display natively will and displayed normally even though they are declared as downloads, and only for files which the iOS can not display the user will be asked if the file should be downloaded.

- When changing settings of iCab within the "Settings" App, the changes were not always synced to the iCloud correctly

- The site-specific Browser ID setting should be more reliable.

- When uploading photos to a web page you can now even use the camera to shoot photos for the upload directly from within iCab Mobile (on all devices which have a camera).
- The Tabs overview can be easily switched between a thumbnail view and a list view. The thumbnail view shows the currently open Tabs as big easy to hit thumbnail images, the list view lists all Tabs as a list, and besides the currently open Tabs it includes the previosly closed Tabs, the Firefox Sync tabs and the Tabs shared via iCloud from all of your other iOS devices where iCab Mobile is installed as well.

Please note that there can be still a few web pages left, where the file upload is not working, most likely because these pages are doing certain things, which don't work on the iOS platform.
- In the file select panel for the file upload feature, you can now also define the maximum size and format for photos you select from the photo album. In case you want to change the maximum size, please configure it before selecting the photo.
- iCab Mobile now has its own Proxy setting (iOS 5 and later). This can be used if you need to use a certain proxy for a certain use case but you can't or don't like to use the system wide proxy setting of the iOS. If the iCab proxy setting is enabled, then iCab uses this proxy for the requests. If the iCab proxy setting is switched off, then iCab uses the standard proxy setting of the iOS, just like before.
